Lazy Sundays
Theres a warmth from the sun that I haven't felt in weeks... It seems like this spring is the complete opposite of the one last year.... in 2009 I remember spring starting in early march and it being sunny and warm nearly every day...now it struggles to get above 15 degrees most days and rarely do we get sunshine... This weekend has been the exception... and I decided to take the day and relax.... I've been drawing, playing guitar, smoking and generally enjoying life without thinking about crazy school and my thesis....
I made banana bread as well... no special ingredients, just good quality banana bread....mmmmm
Back to the daily grind on monday, but thank goodness for little relief
peace,
hippy

4/20/10- A stoner's Delight in Amsterdam!!
To say 4/20 is to elicit numerous references to appear in ones mind.... It's a day us lovers of the herb hold in very high esteem. I remember years ago sitting with my friends eagerly watching the clock tick closer to 4:20 when we'd spark up that bowl... Or those rare occations I saw the 4:20 AM blink on my clock and a sly smile would appear on my lips... wherever we go there are little references and hints... I giggle at store items priced at $4.20 and so forth.
So to say 4/20 is important is an understatement. This year however was special for a number of reasons... first of all I was in the heart of weed country, the Netherlands!! Now the phenomenon is not widely known over in Europe I would come to find out.... mostly because of their ways of listing dates... 4/20 would really be 20/4 which isn't nearly as cool in my opinion.... but enough of this garbage lets get to my 4/20!! Ever since moving here I've been listening to a cannabis related podcast known as The Dopecast from the Dopefiend network http://dopefiend.co.uk. Now this guy knows his weed! Its a great podcast with lots of listeners, music and proper weedy things....When I had heard they were coming to Amsterdam on 4/20 for their infamous "DOPESTOCK in AMSTERDAM" annual smoke out I just had to go!... My good friend Noah, another American expat living in Leiden and enjoying the buds was really keen to come up with me.... probably because he had gone last year :D...

My good friend Noah, another American expat living in Leiden and enjoying the buds was really keen to come up with me.... probably because he had gone last year :D...
So it Tuesday morning April 20th and I'm awake super early in the morning. I had gone to the grocery store the day before to stock up on snacks and food... from earlier experiences I knew that a lot of my money would go towards over expensive foods to cure the ever persistent munchies that would come after my stony sessions.... This time I made sandwiches, bought candy, nuts, apples, and a huge drink to satisfy my appetite for the day...
We caught the train at 11:30 into Amsterdam... about a 35-40 minute ride on a relatively nice day... it was a bit cold and windy, but the sun was out and we were happy!... Arriving around noon we headed out into the city looking for a proper place to stock up on some supplies....
We headed down the west of the city avoiding the Centrum with it's tacky tourist shops and overpriced bud... Only to end up at the Grey Area... A wonderful coffeeshop owned by some American guys.. They had some really lovely weed as well. I bought the Grey Haze and Noah bought another haze.... I can't remember (too much smoking eh?) and we rolled up a nice J or two
By then it's around 1pm and we decide to head over to the Cannabis College to join the festivities! As we're walking East towards the centrum we run into another American looking for Dopestock... a forum member named SaintVitus... and walked on down through the Redlight District towards the shop....
As we walk in there is a big table in the front with a bunch of happy looking tokers :) What a day! We introduced ourselves and started the festivities... I couldn't tell you how many different joints, iolites, vape bags that kept passing by me here and there.... I had a great time playing Son of Gonzo's guitar and jammin' with him on my harmonica... listening to the banter and great conversations going on what a great day....
at 4:20 we had 3 giant 10 meter vape bags being passed around the room!! awesome....
Afterwards We headed over to start the Coffeeshop crawl... our First stop was the Greenplace where I picked up some lovely hash and the infamous Headband (dopestock cup winner this year) we hung out for a bit in the trippy room then headed out to Barney's Lounge... Another great shop.... Next we headed over to the Dampkring... I didn't pick up any more green, but just hung out.... We then ended our Crawl at the Dolphins and their crazy decorations...
After numerous joints, bowls, etc i was quite hazy to say the least.... Then they announce the Joint Rolling Competition! I decide in my infinite wisdom to roll a crazy 3 pronged joint... even though I'd never done it before!.... and low and behold It won me 2nd place!! I probably could have done it better... but hell for a first attempt?
We headed back to leiden with lighter wallets and happier heads and hearts... A proper celebration of a Stoner's holiday

Vince and Trev: A comic of dreams
So before I moved to the Netherlands I had a dream of moving here and opening up a coffeeshop and chilling all day long....
this culminated in the creation of a silly comic about those misadventures....
without Further Ado, I Introduce.......

Konningendag adventures part 1 Den Haag nights
One of the craziest Dutch holidays is Konningendag or Queens Day... It's supposedly the Queens birthday (although it's actually the queen's mother's birthday) And what a holiday it is.
Honestly It's just an excuse to get completely wasted and rowdy with giant parties and concerts throughout the streets in any town or city. Me and some friends decided to go to Den Haag the night before. There's always numerous stages throughout the city with different bands playing and we decided why the hell not? We arrived by a train packed full of partiers, all covered in Orange (which is the big proper color that everyone wears) You could hear the music in the background as you left the station and walked towards the city. Tens of thousands of happy people roamed the streets singing and dancing and drinking....
We stopped by a few concert stages, but managed to keep missing the bands we wanted to see... ah well we just kept walking and listening though the city.... Halfway through the night the skies opened up and the rain came pouring down, soaking us to the bone.... I was really wet and cold....
As we approached the jazz stage I realized I had to pee really bad (must have been the beers).... I'm looking around and I spy a little coffeeshop :D.... and the wheels in my head start turning.... we get to the stage and I say "gotta run to the bathroom! be back in 10 minutes" I hop on over to the coffeeshop, take a piss, and run upstairs to buy a pre-rolled joint of white widow... 3 euro, not too bad a price.... And I head back to the crowd.... on our walk back to the station I thoroughly enjoyed my spliff in the evening.....
load on the warm train and a quick ride back to Leiden.... to sleep and get ready for our next adventures.... on the Real Queens Day, April 30th

Musical Jammin!
Last night was a normal day like any other,
I went to the lab, got some work done on my thesis, and decided to head on over to my favorite place in Leiden, The Leidseplein. When i got in the place was quite packed, so I decided to head over to the SamSam next door. The place is a bar which has a smoking room where you can smoke a j and enjoy a beer. When I went in I noticed on the wall there was an advertisement for the leidse rock company... a semi-newly formed musicians group were playing that evening.... I decided to head home, get some dinner... load my pockets with harmonicas, and head on back to the bar... I get back around 8:15 before the festivities started... rolled up a fatty and puffed away as they set up.
Until now I had thought this was a proper show... until they said "anyone else want to play up here?" I asked around and realized that it was an open Mic night!
So after a while I jump on stage and grab their guitar and play a few songs for the crowd... It was a bit rough to start out with.... seeing as I had no intention of being musical that evening... I had only brought the harmonicas on the off chance of collaboration.... Played about 4 songs then the main group came on and played some of their songs.... it was a very good set...
later in the evening I spoke with the person running the group and we set up a jam with the guitars, fiddle, mandolin and me on my harmonica... It was a musical night of fun!!! so much fun....
peace,
hippy
